MOUNTAIN BIKE racing Sept. 17-19th HIGHLAND MOUNTAIN!!!!
Since my affiliation with McGill Cycling is currently more historical than anything else, this race weekend is NOT any sort of "official" McGill Cycling event. I will be travelling to Highland Mountain in southern new hampshire next weekend, leaving sometime friday evening the 17th, returning to Montreal sunday night the 19th. www.highlandmountain.com
I am organizing a "crew" of friends who enjoy off-road mountain biking to make a trek to the Mecca of downhill riding in the northeast. I, personally, will spend the weekend at Highland exclusively, but I know that as part of the ECCC collegiate race weekend there will also be XC racing at Kingman Farms, not far away, on saturday. Any MCT riders who would like to tag along on with my crew are welcome, either just to ride, or to race in some ECCC categories, either XC, Dual Slalom, or Downhill. There are also non-ECCC downhill categories at highland on sunday (in which I will be participating.)
For those who would like to try downhill mountain biking for the first time, highland mountain rents DH bikes, as well as some smaller, "trail bike" type of mtbikes as well.
Accommodations may be in the out-of-doors, aka the highland parking lot, and if this is the case I recommend bringing some sort of quickly constructed shelter, such as a tent, lean-to, or inflatable bouncy house.
details about transportation to follow, anyone with cars who would like to help transport are dually urged to note that here.
And I'll thank you very much.

wow, dead silence, huh? No mountain bikers left on this forum?
I'm here. there should be a few more shortly. I talked to a few people about this race and most of them showed interest in going
I'm totally going!! I just don't know how to get down yet but I'm sure the team will talk about it as well. I also need to grab a jersey at some point.
YAYYY!!! RACING!!!
I'm still itching to do another XC race, but I have a wedding to go to this weekend. Keep me posted on other races this fall, though!
if anyone else is interested in coming to this race, they need to let us know now so that we can figure out how many vehicles we need to rent. we want to get a final number by tomorrow so you have till then to decide. also if you are planning on coming, make sure that you do have some camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, or whatever else you may need). if you do not, try to borrow some or go the outdoor club and rent stuff from there
Bummer. All my camping gear is 6hrs away at home. Do all yall have any extras?
Otherwise, where might the outdoor club be located?
no i don't. I'm just getting a tent from the outdoor club myself. It's located in the SSMU building
I don't have a tent but I can definitely lend you some gear if you still need it. (sleeping bag, sleeping mat, head lamp, etc..) Just send a msg.
i've got a small 2 person tent i'd be willing to loan out. PM me if you need one.

So, due to the lack of interest from XC racers, and the extreme distance between the XC and DH venues, I'm going to slightly change the plan to one car traveling to highland mountain only. Kingman farms, where the XC is located is more than an hour away, to the south east, and the XC course there is really not very good, as I remember. Emily, you should still definitely come, and I can set you up with a big helmet and some armor so you can ride Highland and have a blast. There is the Dual Slalom race on saturday, which with a little practice you could maybe win in women's B. You could race the downhill race on sunday too, I'm pretty sure. I might even let you borrow my bike for that event.
Sorry that we can't rent two cars and go in different directions, but with just one xc racer it doesn't really make sense. Come spend the weekend at highland, you'll love it!
Sorry for the late reply. I know I've been off the site for a while. I can try to get a car to go out to the xc race. I have a small 5 seater car with a two bike bike rack for the back. Let me know if this is helpful.
Alan
That sounds wonderful!
I think I'll come regardless of whether we make it to the XC race, but if we can make Kingman happen that would be absolutely awesome!
Hi, I'm going to sign up for the facebook event to get in better touch with peopl. I'd like to know where people are leaving from. I would like to come. Preferable to do this race and I can drive to it. I would need to know what I and anyone else needs to do with the McGill cycling team to enter the ECCC race as a McGill Rider, since we may be the only people from McGill arriving for this event.
Here is my # (514) 937-2562
Anyone please call me if you want to race. And Ben, plz call me if you want to yell at me for being so last minute. Ben, if you want to convince me that I shouldn't be so "by the skin of my teeth" for the race and just roll instead at Highland give me a call and let me know where yallziz are meeting on Friday (though by the skin on my teeth is usually how most MTBers ride, ex. skinnies on to off camber turns without feathering the breaks YEahh Boiey)
Alan
Yeah, looks like we're off. I'll be headed out with Emile at 6:00PM tomorrow from the Ghetto. We have room for one other rider and bike, but it might be tight. We will be camping somewhere around Kingman for the races in the morning then heading out to Highland to catch up with you two.
Ben, I understand you have to work late on Friday making it hard to leave together. Can you tell me the name of the park/campsite we stayed in two years ago near the racecourse. Also does the team have a USA cycling collegiate license we can use??
Peace, the greener the better,
Alan
hey guys, sorry I didn't call you back tonight late alan. I'll call you tomorrow am. too tired to think right now. looks like me and justin will ride down (and maybe caillan? ) together late. Justin I'll call you tomorrow
later
ok thanks ben. Emily make sure that you pre-register for the races you'll be doing on bike reg. here's a link to the site. http://collegiatecycling.org/eccc/wiki/index.php?n=Calendar.Current
about the license alan, you'll just have to get a temporary one for the weekend the saturday morning at the race. they've always got a tent set up for registration there and handle licenses there as well.
having a bit of american cash is always handy too. And don't forget your passport!!
Sounds good. See you boyz on Saturday after the xc race, I want to head to the hill and maybe get some runs in. I'll be riding short track on Sunday morning and DH at 11h YEEAh. I will be leaving in an hour. If anyone wants a ride you have to call me between 5:00 and 5:45 PM today. Sorry for the tight perameters. I'll check my phone messages when I get home. My home phone # is left above.
The bird's the word,
Alan
I'm taking some time printing out maps from the library. Anyone can call my house until about 6PM. And call Emily after that.
Alan
