In the city of toronto, they have Mr. Rob Ford running for Mayor. He is know for really stupid outburst, like the one against HIV/ AIDS victims. However, the one he made about cyclists is really stupid.

Ford has it right.! if bikers want to ride on the roads they should pay annual fees just like the people who drive cars. They are a bunch of whiners.

What always amazes me is that some drivers who complain about cyclists not paying, do not seem to realize that a number of cyclists own cars and pay for insurance etc. In Quebec, I wonder how many cyclists have a driver's license and thus pay annually to keep it, but do not own cars? Then again when did critical, intelligent thought ever become relevant to this type of discussion?

And in the case of many city dwellers, I now pay many thousands in taxes. And I don't own a car, but a large part of it goes to building roads. I do use roads on my bike, but weighing in well under 200 pounds even on my commuter loaded with groceries, I don't cause a significant amount of wear and tear. Furthermore, I need very little room for parking... And let's not even get into the debate of how much I pay for health care versus how much I benefit vs drivers, or the cost to the health system from having so many cars around.
