Everyone probably knows how much I hate Armstrong, not so much because he doped (like everyone else) but because of his attitude with everyone else in Cycling. And so, I've always wondered how committed Livestrong was to actually fighting cancer.
It turns out they don't use any of their donations towards cancer research, amongst other things.

I read this too. I'm a huge fan of Outside, and have had a subscription in the past, but they really were Lance's bitch for many years. Must have been a pretty big editorial decision on their part.

To be fair, Live Strong is pretty transparent about what they do with the donations; they have no intention of tricking you into thinking otherwise.

As far as supporting research, most charities are pretty useless. People donate to feel good about themselves.

What they don't tell you is how much is comprised in those 81%. The money that goes in "programs" include all the printed t-shirts and bracelets, which amounts to a couple million dollars, the events like the 6 million dollar party in Dublin for the Tour of Ireland, etc, etc...

And the "grants" designation is misleading. You'd assume they are grants to research projects, when in fact they're not. Since 2005, they have stopped giving any money whatsoever to research against the cure.
Sure, the case can be made that money gathered for research by charities doesn't amount to a lot, but that's a different story altogether...

Sadly, it turns out the grand jury failed to indict "the man."

Presumably, even if there was evidence of drug distribution, there wasn't evidence that federal funds were used towards doping, which means they couldn't make the charges stick.

Hopefully, USADA has their own investigation into the doping specifically, and they might be able to get him, with the testimonies from Landis, Hamilton, Andreu and possibly Hincapie, but I doubt it :S
